Operational Overview The Great War was to be the war to end all wars. It consumed the world forever changing lives, politics, economies, and technologies. It can be argued that never before had such unbalanced and eclectic military forces met each other on the battlefield, and that never before had technologies developed so quickly nor battles fought with such ferocious brutality in such abhorred conditions. One of the most influential and iconic technologies born from the scarred battlefield was the landship, which became better known simply as the tank. Although inclusive, this campaign will pay tribute to the birth of these steel beasts by marking the first use of landships in combat during the Battle of the Somme on September 15 of 1916.
