BarracudaCals sheet P-47 Thunderbolts Part 3 features aircraft from three different air forces.
Represented here are;
"Schmaltzie" P-47D-30-RE Serial number 44-20866.
65thFS, 57th FG 12th Air Force.Pilot. Lt F.J.Middleton.
"Sleepy Jean III" P-47D-28-RA. Serial Number 42-28641.
395th FS, 368th FG 9th Air Force. Pilot. Bill Wayland.
"Eileen" P-47D-11-RE. Serial number 42-75429.
84th FS, 78th FG, 8th Air Force. Pilot. Frank Oiler.
The decals are printed by Cartograf and are extremely sharp with hardly any carrier film visible. The nose art, particularly "Sleepy Jean III" is beautifully represented.
2 decals for Sleepy Jeans noseart are provided. Presumably one is a spare as I haven't seen this artwork on the starboard side of the actual aircraft and the sheets instructions don't call for this placement either.
A supplimental sheet is provided giving the squadron number "53" for "Schmaltzie" in an alternative darker blue, which is a nice touch and gives the modeller the choice for this often debated colour.
A selection of national insignia is provided along with a full set of factory stencils for one aircraft.
The only thing I can see that the modeller has to be aware of is that the plan view drawings for "Schmaltzie" and "Sleepy Jean III" are reversed. "Schmaltzie" should be the one carrying the yellow MTO bands on the wings and rudder.
This error only occurs in the plan view and the main views of the aircraft are correct. Its a fault in the printing of the instructions and not in the decals themselves.
Highs: Excellent representation of noseart with a choice of colours provided for the 57th FG codes.Lows: Slightly misleading instructions. ( A real nitpick but one that the modeller should be aware of)Verdict: Three colourful and interesting schemes make this a very nice decal set.
